this summer also introduced me to public display art with the creation
of three 6 foot tall centennial birthday cakes for my home town, berwyn, il.
you can view all the cakes created by linking to the berwyn arts council
"cake poster page" here. these cakes were nicely displayed all summer all
over berwyn. and i am proud to say that when they decided to auction off
these cakes, ALL three of mine sold for top dollar. none the less the winning
bids were much lower than the actual value of these pieces. thanks to the
bidders and congratulations on your wins!

"speed racer" as subject matter and defined it in there own way. the artists are:

"speed" and his nemisis "racer x". all of the artists have chosen to represent their
own version of the classic "speed racer" from the seventies tv show.

close promptly @ 7 or 8pm. david's guests are usually great characters and sometimes even famous. so

just got back from a hangin'.
the new show is up and ready for viewing. i think it looks great and you should come
see it this friday in river north. jay boeldt and i have put together a dynamic show.
jay is showing some great new works, incorporating very interesting current pop figures
in a unique display of pop impessionism with enamel paint on panel. i really like this
new batch and may take " am* wine*ouse " for myself.
i, in turn am dsplaying some of my more abstract works for the first time (at
david leonardis gallery), in conjunction with some of my strongest pop works
to date.
showing the absracts is a big step for me because that's where my
roots are and where i think i convey the most emotion. i will be displaying
works from my african influenced"warrioir" series that i first showed to
david leonardis over two years ago upon walking into his gallery which
he rejected, noting: "i can see you know how to move the paint
around the canvas, now paint something i can sell". adding today:
"now that you have a body of strong pop work the african paintings
are under that pop umbrella. thus the african art becomes pop and
it's sellable"

not only have i been working day and night preparing for the new show i have also started working
on the "berwyn cake parade". i have been asked to paint not one, not two, but three birthday cakes
for berwyn's centenial celebration. these 6 foot cake wood cutouts will all be on display by june 1
all over berwyn. there are to be 100 cakes in all.

mark mothersbaugh (the frontman of devo fame) will be showing his
unique art in june. the show is called "the postscard diaries" and cosists
of limited edition prints of doodles, drawings and statements in the
form of postcards from marks warped mind. you won't want to miss

i have confirmed a new 2 man show at david leonardis gallery - river north, opening on may 9th 2008
this show will be featuring new work by me (miro ledajaks) and former gallery owner and oak park resident
jay boeldt. jay is the former owner of "plan-b gallery" in forest park and featured one of my first one man
shows. his website (jayboeldt.com) is currently under construction but i am including a sampling of his
work below. although the gallery owning experience was a positive one for jay it resulted in not having
enough time for his own work. this show will be jay's first since the gallery closed.
once again i will have a plethera of new pop works on display. i have been being introduced to some new
and interesting art and artists in the last few months and you will probably see some of these influences
in my new work. i am very happy how it is coming along.

i have been a fan of DEVO for a very long time and never miss an opportunity to see their show on the
once in a while occcasion it comes to town. for many years mark has been dabbling in various forms of
visual art. one variation is called his "postcard diaries" instead of babbling on about it right here i will

although it is a possibilty that mark may actually be in attendance, i am being told that if nothing else a live
video chat will be available on opening night. will keep you posted on this.
i have also discovered a recent in depth interview with mark mothersbaugh on a site called fecal face.

herb nolan has been a fixture at the gallery for many years and features some amazing photography of
the greatest figures and icons in jazz and blues music.
david derosa is a newcomer to the chicago scene but is destined to become a highly sought after artist
with his interesting and thought provoking take on pop and cultural issues.

well 2007 was pretty good a year, i sold quite a bit of art (more than i've ever sold in one year).
thanks to ALL who are helping support my art career.
over the holidays we traveled to georgia with the family to see family and made a pit stop in
summerville to see the newly opened "howard finster vision house" a great accomplishment by
my friend david leonardis. although the museum is now officially open to the public there is still
much work that needs to be done and it is a true work in progress. there is a deep dedication
here that is solely supported by donations, purchases of howard's work and purchases @
david leonardis galleries. what a great way to help preserve an american treasure as well as living
artists around you.
also while in georgia i had an opportunity to visit the "high museum of art". i was impressed with their
world class collection and also with their wing dedicated to the work of howard finster (very cool).

well it's been a long time - i've been on a little vacation excursion with family and freinds
to hawaii, attending a wedding and and chasing the kids around for two weeks. i did manage
to squeeze in some photography time though and may be sharing some of those photos on
flickr or photobucket real soon (will keep you posted).
